The new house in Ohio has a huge bonus room... 22'x 24'.... and I want to put a pool table in there.
Who has one that can learn me a little on what to look for in a pool table? I don't want to spend a lot of money on this first table..... I have a six year old......
I like antique furniture and thought about an old pool table......
"Buy a used one..There a dime a dozen on the used market. Most people use them for a year or so and then dump them after the novelty wears off."
Been there, done that. Do know how boring it is to drink and play pool at home. Friends stop playing you because you beat them. Then it becomes an expensive high elevation coffee table. My 2 cents. Get electronic darts with a fuse ball table ect
I wanna pool table too. But you guys are right about all the used ones on the market from people who never use them. I say put a small stage and a pole in that extra room and just have a bunch of exotic dancers come over from time to time.
I had one when I lived in Atlanta -- something used, I don't remember the name -- and it was also used quite often. We have a spot for one in the new house, too. Three of my friends have pool tables and use them often.
Like anything else, it's a question of "how much do you want to spend" but even a cheap used table can play pretty nice if you just refurb the slate and felt. I did, and the good slate only ran about $280. New felt was like $50. You can also get the rails refurbed (the guy said for another $100) but my table didn't need it. At that point it's a brand new playing surface.
I looked at a few Olhausen's this afternoon.. there is a pool hall on the other side of town going out of business. Those were a little too "commercial" for my taste.
Actually, I found this beauty on e-bay... talked the owner earlier this evening and I am watching the auction?
I like the idea of an antique table.... I like the character of the piece.

My table is about 20 years old. Has a good bit of carving on it, and leather pockets (no return channels). There are many styles of tables out there, find the one you like.
If you're not a real pool shark and could see yourself getting rid of it, pick up a used table and have it re-felted.
If you're a pool shark like "run the table babel" or myself, "mark the shark", get a full 4.5x9 table with a thick, one piece slate bed and competition felt.
If you have a lot of friends that like to play pool, put in a used bar table that takes quarters to get the balls back. You might as well make a little cash for the house
i have a pool table, pingpong table ,airhockey ,dart set and a full casino set up down stairs. but the game that gets the most use is fuse ball table. that shit is so much fun when your drunk.
