Thinking of a quick trip (4 days or so) soon to Mexico (probably labor day weekend), thinking maybe Cancun? General thoughts? Useful ideas? Good locations? Places to get good deals online? Good alternatives?
Cancun is just party party party, especially during spring break and the summer. Every spot is really packed with tons of people. So if that's what you're looking for then there's no place better to go. During the end of summer and winter, Cancun is more calmed down with maybe only 2 or 3 hot spots each night. I've been 6 times, the winter and end of summer was by far my favorite.
Better places would be Cozumel or maybe Belize. Some friends of mine go to Belize every year and deep sea fish all day long, then go back just in time to go find the one party spot. It's a nice combination.
Any tourist place you go in Mexico will have at least one place that is really hopping each night, so you don't have to worry about not finding that. But places like Cancun during busy seasons will be nothing but shoulder to shoulder club life everywhere you go.
Slaughter...
What "type" of vacation atr you seeking? Who are you travelling with?
Important question...I just walked in the door from being in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo on a 7 day cruise....It was a great time for the girlfriend and I.....
Whatever you do, DON'T go parasailing in Mexico. I did, and some of the strings on my chute broke (no fat jokes here, I only weigh 110 lbs). I crash landed on a thatched roof and rolled down the side and hung there until they got me out of the chute. I had palm fronds sticking out of me like a human pin cushion, not to mention the bruises. If the boat driver hadn's seen what was happening I would have gotten hurt worse, he stopped the boat so I didn't get dragged any further.
The only high point was that the roof was on a cantina, so the tequila was real close....
:atu: sorry about that but its a funny story, Like Craig said just go to California. If you HAVE to go dont drink the water...cant really recommend any place once I got across I never looked back
Go to Playacar, it is just 45 minutes south of Cancun and BLOWS Cancun away. It is also 5 minutes away from PlayaDelCarmen which is an old fishing village and is great for shopping. You can also catch a ferry to Cozumel from PlayaDelCarmen. We stayed at Secrets last year which is between Cancun and Playacar and loved it, it has a big secluded beach with no other resorts that you can walk for miles on.
I agree with agentf1, that is a great spot. Cozumel is more laid back I think which is nice if you want to lounge...Take a scooter around the island and stop where ever you want.
I just got back yesterday from 3 nights in Cancun! I had an amazing time! The weather was great, the people were great, and the womenzes were everywhere! I think I'm still drunk, but it really was a ton of fun! My suggestion would be to stay at the nicest all inclusive hotel you can find. We stayed at the Omni for about $600 each, including air and taxes. We kept track of what we spent on food and booze and it came to about $300 each, per day, all written off to the all inclusive plan. I bought my trip through WorryFreeVacations.com. They have a "red hot deals" section the has some great prices. I wish I was still there!!!

I thought that this was the rainy season there now? Sounds like it was no problem.

It only rained once while I was there, and that was only for a couple of hours. It was nice because it cooled everything off.
Cancun is great for a short trip like you are talking about because it's close and you should be able to go nonstop. But don't kid yourself that Cancun is Mexico. It's really more of an extension of Daytona, Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami. Big american hotels, big american tourists, etc.
If you want to see Mexico, fly into Cancun and take the short bus trip up to Playa Del Carmen. Great place, not too many americans, mostly europeans. Great place to eat drink, shop, etc. The ferry to Cozumel is also a good idea.
Belize is a fine place, especially if you dive, but not for 4 days, it just takes too long to get there.
