Problem With Windows XP re saving pictures from online

Has enyone had this problem.... you find a great picture online and go to save it in teh normal way by right clicking...

you would normally then be given options as to where you want to save it to - e.g. My Pictures under My Documents being the most common - but then you get to select save as file format - normally JPEG

I have found on two new computers that I cannot get the option to save as a JPEG at all - I get two options of *.art or *.bmp what is the deal here - is Microsoft trying to stop us saving pics.... this is crazy... as no pic can be transferred then viewed on the hard drive - one of the most common things people do.

I have Windows XP and Works and just installed MS Office but no change in this problem.

Can anyone help.... please?

Jason has same problem on his machine - right click and save as will not work for anything other than a bitmap or *.art file -

After you click "save picture as" and the placement screen comes up, type (filename).jpg. The *.jpg will work no matter what type of file it is selected to be saved as. Hope this helps.

Caused by damaged ActiveX controls (BHO actually, but most commonly AX).
(from within IE)

Tools ---> Internet Options ---> Settings ---> View Objects

Just delete all of them. Things like flash, quicktime, etc. will reinstall when needed.
Restart the box, fire up IE and the issue should be resolved.

If you're using Internet Exploder at all, you should be shot.

Switch to a decent browser and your issues will likely go away.

Yeah start using Opera.

Opera is good, but I like free even better. I run mozilla on both my linux box and windows box, and its great. The other good thing is its much more secure, and if a flaw does arise like it did a week or so ago, the patch is available within hours, not months.

Thanks guys - really appreciate it

Typing in jpg didn't work as I'd already tried that

I'll try your suggestion MadMaxx as that sounds most likely to explain the issue. My home computer (where I am now) does not have this problem. The problem relates to the two machines at Heffners Performance so next time I am in there I'll see if that fixes it.

Opera is old school... go with Firefox, you won't be sorry!! No active X BS, fast pages, themes, and proper rendering.

I've had this problem MANY times. I've found that if you go into Internet options and delete ALL cookies, files and history, it will go back to normal. Hope this helps.

The guy can't track down a simple Save As problem, and the fact that he is referring to *.art files means he's using AOL, so you want to dump him into the cobbled-together POS that is the Linux end-user experience?

I guess that way the questions would stop; he'd never figure out how to get online.

lol@mcguire.....good point.

at least it would seem like MS is getting better....no more ??'s being asked as to fix it all the time.
