The film company is out in public, right? Probably can do it, provided they are using it as nothing more than a general backdrop and have a permit to be out there.

Yep the point is that the film company is shooting from publicly owned areas like the sidewalk or the street. The mall is a different because it is private property.

I'm under the impression that you can photograph people without model releases as long as the pictures don't end up in an advertisement. Someone will prob chime in if I'm wrong here, lots of lawyers.
So make sure you are easily identifiable in the shots and refuse to sign a release.
Might work.

Hmmm, I remember from my Miami Vice watching days that an import export company was always the code word for some drug house that took in shipments of cocaine from Colombia.
