Yep, every word he said is true. I CANNOT stand to here blacks speak the way some of them do (NOT being racist). Hell, even white kids speak that way these days.
I can't say I speak properly all the time, that's just how I grew up. Everyone was ghetto, including the teachers. Hell, sometimes I could say words they couldn't.
It's the "dumbing" down of America. Remember in the mid to late 80s there was that large push to have American school children score just as high on scholastic testing as Japanese children? I'd say we failed and this is the outcome.
Even popular black movies use broken English in their titles:
Love Don't Cost a Thing
Cradle 2 The Grave
You Got Served
My mom is an inner-city high school teacher. Some of the stories she brings home astound me. The problem is the culture and society that some children look up to today is not realistic. It started with the gangsta age where kids thought they could get by being a gangsta, selling drugs and stealing. Now it's evolved into the pimp era, where women are treated as nothing more than meat and the kids today can do whatever they want because they don't recognize authority.
It's a huge problem and it is never going to change unless people start taking responsibility for themselves. Too bad the likes of the ACLU and somewhat the liberals try to instill that it's always someone elses oppression that is keeping them down and that it's the priority and responsibility of people who work hard to feed and clothe the lazy people.

as a 1st year histoy/ duel education(secondary w/special ed extension) major i think you should explore that a little more...to achieve these scores, kids would have to attend school year round, 6-7 days a week for 8-10hrs a day...no school sports, no extra cirrucular activities(marching bands, school clubs etc.). Also kids would only learn the core subjects....language(spoken and written), math, and science...there would be no room for students to go on their own paths (social sciences, the arts, etc..). Now if this is what you want for our youth (your kids maybe) than by all means fight for it, but i dont think its the way to go...and heck America is still the most prosperous nation on the planet for a reason...were doing SOMETHING right....
...that being said Bill Cosby is 100% right in everything he said...
AMEN. Brother Bill!!!!!!!!
One of the most enjoyable things for me is chatting with an articulate black or hispanc.....especially a young one!! Makes ya just wanna hug 'em and say GOOD JOB!!
My first wife was an 11th grade English teacher in a predominantly black school. Sometimes I'd read the papers those kids turned in, and I didn't know whether to laugh or scream. Assuming I could read it at all, which often wasn't possible.
Heck, some of them were even worse than the grammar I see on Viper Alley.
The school system sucks, especially out here in CA.
My wifes sister will be a senior in high school this upcoming year, and I have read some of her past papers. Its like reading the work of a 6th grader, but the worst part is it was graded a B+ even riddled with simple sentences and grammar mistakes. Shes an over all B student and it makes me sick to think shes going to graduate lacking any real brains to be anything better than a K Mart employee.
I read the news this morning and I have to give Cosby some kudos over what was said in his statements. He is absolutely correct on almost every level. Also the drop out rate is ridiculous! No wonder a lot of people are getting absolutely nowhere in life.

Totally agree!
I also hate it when a kid is failing and the parents blame the teacher. I find it odd how some kids fail and other kids get A's and it's still the teacher's blame. Some parents worship money over education. Problem is for the most part, money doesn't come before education.

absolutely! I mean, I can remember my earlier years, even during highschool....nothing could be easier...It was just as easy as showing up. Don't know why some of these damn kids find it too tough. Even in Texas they are making the kids PASS the TAS test. I mean, have you seen a TAS test or something similar?? It's as simple as grammar school reading comprehension....and your basic match skills...
Bill is absolutelty correct, but at the same time society has created a image for this class of youth that it is accepted and encouraged, until that changes they will still be illiterate and uneducated.
