Found use for dad\'s old vehicle

As some of you know, when my dad passed away he was working on his darn truck to get it running. He died the following day. He ahd been trying to find a short ect. Well call me wierd but I always felt I had to finish what he didn't jsut because I guess. He died days before 9-11 and the little 84 Bronco II has followed me to where I live now. The wife has got on my arse about it as well because it is just sitting there. It is a clean and decent vehicle and I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it because I don't need it. Couldn't sell it. But I have a nephew that had just turned 16 and I offered to give it to him. I would have rather seen him be able to use something of his grandfathers. You see my father had come across some hard luck mostly from his own decisions as well as health problems and just bought this vehicle at an auction right before he died. For once he had some spark in his eye, he talked about taking Andy (my nephew) fishign up North in it and perhaps take it off road. Because of healther problems and surgeries and employment issues he hadn't been able to fish in years. This is the same guy that would pick me up in his Ford truck when I was a kid walking home from grade school on the way to the lake or campground. I would throw my books in and hop in and we would camp and fish the whole weekend. Of course I would do my homework by lantern at night. He loved to fish and seemed to have a story for every road in Arizona.

Well Andy turned it down because he saw this Chevy p/u he liked. It looks great but it won't pass emissions. He just learned his first lesson in life about buyign vehicles. Well I was talking to my sister and she was saying how upset he was because he had no vehicle which meant no dates ect. I offered the Bronco again, however he has to buy the parts and spend the weekend with me putting in a new power steering hose, finding the short ect. Perhaps i will tell him some stories like my dad did with me when I helped him work on his vehicles ect. Perhaps after get it running we will go fishing? My nephew's father was never around and he looked up to my dad as a father figure. I hope I can share something special with him like my father did with me?

Uncle Jason offerign advice, that is scary

Every boy needs someone he can look to as a father-figure. My father wasn't around after my parents divorced (he taught me what NOT to do as a Father) and I didn't have any uncles.... good thing I had my Grandpa Chuck!

Your nephew may not realize how lucky he is right now, but he will realize when he grows up!

Props to you Uncle Jason!

Re: Found use for dad\'s old vehicle

My father had two Remmington 12 gauges that he got from my Grandfather. Before he died he specified that Andy was to get one of them but not until I decide he is old enough. I think in our fishing trip we will take the shot guns out and have a little fun with some fruit. I will also let him fire up the SAR3

However he won't be getting the shotgun until he is past 30 years old. I don't want it being sold or lost over poker bets or bar money....not to say that I have done that

I also have some fishing gear I plan to give him. Funny went we went fishing he always seemed to have everything or the right tool ect. I was always going over to his tackle box getting a certain kind of bait or spinner. I always seemed to lose most of mine when he didn't ....wonder why??
