Be very, very careful when quoting your zone rep. They often speak off the cuff and don't always know what they are talking about. Thirty of the Copperhead Orange? Nope. Maybe 300 (thirty with an extra zero), but even that is unlikely to be defined. Copperhead Orange is available in the DC ordering system as one of four standard colors for 2005 in addition to black, silver, and red. Officially referred to as Copperhead Orange Satin Coat - Code PVR. As with Vipers in the past, they are built to order. So if only 30 people want that car in orange then that is all they will make. If 3,000 order it in that color, then you will see that many made. For 2005 I expect the usual 1000 red, 400 black, 400 silver, and then another 400 orange. All guesstimates, of course.
Yes I did try and qualify my comments as to the source. When we placed the order it was a color option but not anymore just red/silver/black. He gave some reason for the lack of production (intially cancelled but then someone high up in the food chain said go with it) and I'm getting the warm fuzzies from the GM and manager that this is going to happen, so I'm trying to do my part. Hope your wrong on this, I'd really love to see it.
I would say that the Copperhead Orange color will still be a go for 2005. Take the 2005 Quad Cab SRT Ram. Used to be in the order system, now it is not. Yet it has been announced by DC and is most definitely reality for 2005. Currently Dodge is producing "limited edition" runs of the Viper in 200 or more, excluding the VCA Viper and raffle Vipers. White Mamba of early 2004? 200. Black Mamba (currently in production)? 200. Final Editions of 2002? 360. Even the famed GTS-R was a 100-car run. There is simply no way they will produce only 30 orange SRT-10's. My guess is that they will produce another Mamba Edition in 2005 (red or silver probably) and that will be your Limited Edition car. Hell, it could be orange for that matter - but I doubt it.
And not to belabor the point, but I find it interesting that the Viper has recently offered no options other than stripes and the ACR package (Gen II). The 2003 SRT came in three colors and offered no other options at all. In 2004 you could get one of two Mamba Editions, which offered you an optional color and interior (white) or optional badging and interior (black). Both as "package deals" and both at a higher set price. Still no additional available options on the basic car or the Mamba Editions. Interesting approach indeed!
ya know i never even thought of how much alike the old Copperhead concept car and the SRT look....interesting to say the least...and that color will look killer on the SRT...
Chris:
Spill the beans on the coupe. I got the go ahead to get one. I am sure that I will not be able to get one for at least a year maybe even 2. Don't they offer it to the current 2005 owners first? Just wondering
