The 17-year-old punk that ran the stop sign and crushed my rear quarter didn't have insurance. There was a lapse in coverage that he renewed the day following the accident.
That really sucks, parents should still be liable if he lives at home. My boss's wifes Mercedes was hit about three weeks ago by a 16 year old driving with no insurance or a liscence, they followed him to his house where the mother offered to pay in cash for damages as longs as the father never found out.
Interestingly enough, they kig paid in full $550.00, for the damage. I realize were are talking quite a bit more dineros here, but hopefully this situation will have a positive outcome.
Keep the KY handy....just in case.
Parents are liable most likely, but unfortunately it would require a lawyer to really go after them. First, approach them and ask them what they're willing to do. They might just settle it. Go get estimates first of course so you know how much dinero you're talking.
No problem Chuck. Ive handled a few of these for a few of my friends. They are usually pretty easy and not hard to get money for the repairs. The only time i havent been able to resolve one was when the family was broke...ie living in a bad apartment and everyone was unemployed. If the family has money, we can get if for you. No worries. Go have a good weekend, nail an underage girl and if you want, I will take care of everything next week.
If the car was registered in the parents name or even at the parents address they can be held liable, especially if he's under 18. Going to take some effort but they will be covering it for ya, assuming they have anything of value to risk losing.
You have my sympathy. I'v been hit twice by uninsured motorists. The only "compensation" I ever got was laughing at the witch who hit me when she got thrown in jail for an outstanding warrant.
Chuck, do you have uninsured motorist? I know you probably don't want the hit on your insurance, but that is what it's for. I had to use about 10 years ago when a drunk kid in a T/A hit my supra. Didn't effect my insurnace at all.

Exactly. Find out if he OWNED the car or not.
When my Viper got rear-ended, the driver didn't have insurance (or a license), but the owner of the car did. My insurance company hounded them and they ended up paying for everything.
(And the fucking cops let the driver off scott-free, but that's another story.)
