Beirut, Lebanon, Jun. 15 (UPI) -- Iran reportedly is readying troops to move into Iraq if U.S. troops pull out, leaving a security vacuum.
The Saudi daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat, monitored in Beirut, reports Iran has massed four battalions at the border.
Al-Sharq al-Awsat quoted "reliable Iraqi sources" as saying, "Iran moved part of its regular military forces towards the Iraqi border in the southern sector at a time its military intelligence agents were operating inside Iraqi territory."
Dunno Jon. We won't be interested in liberating Iran, just defending Iraq. But if you're referring to two fronts - Iran and Iraq Insurgence then yes, it would be more difficult.
What I meant was that Iran is far more militarily troublesome than Iraq was. They went through a huge buildup after the 89 war with Iraq, and they've been especially interested in non-conventional weapons. I've read that they annually produce more chemical weapons than anyone else in the world. They've also been caught red-handed doing things like funding the North Korean efforts to produce long-range missiles, and it's well known that Russia and China sell them military technology on a regular basis. Militarily their naval capabilities are thought to be fairly formidable in strictly regional terms.
I'm not saying we can't beat them. Without a doubt, we could slaughter them.
I'm saying Iraq wasn't shit compared to the trouble Iran will cause, and our hand in the Saddam beat-down basically compels us to provide some protection for Iraq until Iraq can protect itself again, which I can't foresee happening for something on the order of a decade or so.
All of that is true without even considering the question of treating Iraqi insurgency as a separate front, and you're right, it will continue to be that for a long time. We already know the majority of the disturbances in Iraq are not Iraqis, they're foreign Islamic extremists hell-bent on ensuring that we fail to establish a democratic government in Iraq.
A weak neighbor is about the only way Iran could make an offensive move in their present condition. They're strong compared to everybody but Israel, but not really strong enough to engage in any protracted offensive actions against full-strength opposition. They may therefore view this as a major, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grab some territory. In fact, given the way they think, they'd be stupid to view it any other way.
Iran could take israel...what Israel did with those nukes as they get overrun is another issue.
The big problem with Iran is that they DO have american weapons, F-4s, F-14s, F-16s, F-18s are fighters that they do have, and they arent export models.
Although I personally am not sure on their operational status because of the Iran Iraq war, after America pussed out and didn't assist their Ally the Shah of Iran, they let massive stockpiles of top of the line weapons fall into some rpg toting islamic fucks.
They DO have Mig 29s which can fly circles around our F-16s although their pilots suck, and I think once we invade their whole military will break apart, but we need to wipeout their entire army, kill every last one of their soldiers otherwise they will do what they are doing in Iraq.
America allowing the Iranian Revolution to happen in the first place was a gross error on our part and Carter is a dipfuck for allowing it to happen and not supporting his allies.
Iran is a country needed to be dealt with...in a utterly brutal and merciless fashion...after that we should reinstall a new shah goverment, which of course will be a major customer for AMERICAN military amraments, and will open up a new source of cheap oil for America...therefore win win for everyone.

F14s where exported,but are very obsolete ( unless they also got the latest upgrades to radar / computer / targeting systems ) compared the the FA 18 hornet / superhornets, F4s arnt shit. i messed around with them in Aschool, F16s are decent, and ARE exported. i would guess migs before american fighters tho... think son. think.

Iran could take out Isreal becasue Israel would be outnumbered, and no amount of military hardware could save them from the "Mass amounts of chemical weapons" being produced by Iran....and for some reason other than our US finnanced weapons being sent over there and the 2+ billion USD every year is not even able to stop a bunch of dumb, uneducated, suicidal arab shits from murdering your children..and israel is barely able to stop that....I doubt they could stop VX, Sarin, Zyklon B (pun intended.), or whatever else Iran's madmen are making....and even if israel could win in a conventional war, at what cost...plus provided this senario ever did happen, youd have to worry about the rest of the arab nations would jump in just to see israel destroyed....and this would lead to a catostrophic war that would leave no winners.
