I use hypermart, and they're expensive for little disk space and traffic.
I just opened an account with Superb.net, 3 times more space and bandwidth for 5 times less...
50GB, 1GB disk, $90 a year...
any better deals out there, with good uptime and good network speed?
I use godaddy.com for my domain name registrar and website hosting. I haven't really compared around, but they seem good, though I don't know how they are for really big-sized needs.
I would get a static IP from Qwest or your phone company. A bit more expensive, but then you got the server and all the code right there in your house.
I have a dyn IP + I run ipconfig /renew every 20 min and I got that IP to stick for about a year now .
I considered getting a static IP, but they charge more of course, and they need to toast my service for 2 month or some lame ass story like that.
That or I need to get a second line then kill the first one.
I'm not crapping greenbacks anymore, so no way.
I use Register.com for my domains and they let you tweak the SOA (source of authority) and I set very frequent refresh times for the DNS, so if I lose my IP I can get re-indexed fairly quickly.
The good thing with an external hosting co is they have redundant network access, backups, generators, etc...
re-Godaddy: I didn't check them out extensively, but I helped another buddy who parked his domain there, and it's a low entry fee, but then you get dinged for every thing you want to do after that...
Maybe the hosting is no-nonsense, but I had bad vibes from that first impression.
