Please do not reply to this thread yet - I am going to be posting 6 pics...
Ok, flew out to DC yesterday with one of my people to be part of Reagan's memorial... Landed, was about 94 and humid as hell... We managed to get there at the right time just prior to freeways being shut down... And we also got very close to the procession - and there were tons of people there... 15 to 20 deep from the barriers...
Anyways, I can't really explain it - nor can I put the thoughts into words when you see the pictures... If you can imagine thousands upon thousands of people absolutely silent - with the only sound being that of a drum beat... Just put chills down my spine - even though people were passing out from the heat...
This first picture is straight out in front of where we were standing... Was just trying to get a quick picture of the Wash Monument - and I notice the airplane that is also in the pic:

Although I have about 75 pics - I just thought I would post these few... Here is the last one... After the procession - we caught two hours of sleep - and then went to wait in line about 2am... The wait was about 4 hours - but well worth it... This was a pic from about 5:30 this morning - as the sun was coming up on the captial...

Glen,
Wish I could have been there to pay my respects. I caught the second half of the procession on television and that alone sent chills up my spine.

Guess you would have had to be there - but seeing those 21 fighters approaching - again, everyone silent... It very much reminded me of the days after 9/11 - when the country shut up for a minute and realized that we are the greatest nation and can come together easily... That is how it felt...
In regards to the carriage - evidently that casket weighed 700 pounds... And that is the same carriage from Lincoln to JFK - I think it was built in 1913... Just very strange feeling - knowing those were his boots, etc...
I know I am doing a poor job of describing it - sorry...
But, if it is one thing the US can do - is come together and provide unbelievable support and strength... All of the evil in the world thinks they can divide us - I would have to say that they are gravely mistaken...

I dobut the carriage carried Lincoln if it was built in 1913.

Did they move him afterwards on it...? They did mention Lincoln when describing it... Also FDR...
I'd have to go back to a brochure that everyone received that entered the capital for viewing...
Being a civil war buff - I understand the dates... But I believe they moved him with it... I'll grab that one page we all received and type it on here this weekend...

I should have called you Jamie when I was about to enter - unfortunately they took my camera and cell phone hours before
