I can't imagine living with someone with that awful disease for 10 years and watching them die slowly with no ability to recognize those around them. She had a tremendous amount of class and her desire to focus on her family and her husband was admirable.
I read an article that said much of the tax cuts the Reagan passed have been reversed in the time since.
I am offended by people who want to suggest they are like Reagan at this time (and defensive when people try to make that connection, see above) - I just don't think anyone should be trying to make that comparison. I've seen so many reports about "how will his death effect the election" and discussions of strategies on both sides about how to capitalize on Reagan's popularity (the highest approval rating at the end of his term). The whole discussion makes me want to puke.

It is unimaginable. My grandfather just went through the same thing over nearly the same length of time until my grandmother finally died a couple of months ago, after 57 years of marriage. After years of caring for her at home when she was totally gone, he had to finally put her in a nursing home, where she was at for 5+ years, yet he was still there to feed her and care for her all the time. A very tough thing to go through, probably tougher than his WWII experiences of getting shot at, wounded by shrapnel, trapped by Germans, nearly drowning in a frigid river crossing, etc.
And you never ever heard her bitch or moan about it...
She knew how to keep things private... I remember at an event 3 years ago - she stood in for Ron - and when people asked how he was doing - she was very upbeat but quickly changed the subject because she didn't think that a lot of detail was needed...
Makes you wonder if him, Churchill and The Duke are telling a few jokes up there...
"I'm proud that I stood against Ronald Reagan, not with him, when his intelligence agencies were abusing the Constitution of the United States and when he was running an illegal war in Central America."
So I take it you're proud you did? People are pretty emotional now about Regan, but the man was not perfect.
You know what? Youre a fuckin traitorous ASSHOLE!!! Traitorous disrespectful sumbitch!!!! Fuckin lowest life scumbag around here. Whats next? Are you going to go wish the brave men and women serving in our Armed Forces in the Middle east to die too? Youre the worst tree huggin stinkin hippi here. Why dont you go hold hands with your butt buddy bin laden, grab Saddam's penis and do some DP's on your fuckin idol. YOU ARE BY FAR the biggest fuckin SCUMBAG HERE! As far as Im concerned, and if i have ANYTHING to do with it. Youre not welcome at ANYTHING viperalley. FUCK YOU!

It seemed to me that Ronald and Nancy were really in love with each other, and her love could be witnessed by her devotion to him in the last few years when he hardly recognized her anymore.
He was a great man, and a great leader. And she was a great wife, and a great first lady.
I hope Kasey and I can still love each other like that when we are 90 years old.
Please read my post above yours again - outguessed you again my friend...
PS - saw some footage today of Nancy over Ron's casket... My god that was heart wrenching... Talk about a devoted wife... I almost feel that kind of love doesn't exist much anymore... Almost makes you want to go back to the 1950's when things weren't quite as corrupt...
I think that is what I feel when I see the casket - a time that has passed us by in which we didn't learn...
devoted to the end. just like her husband. godbless them both..

Great post! Viewing this picture shows so many shades of greatness at so many different levels. That one picture shows illustrates principles that are sadly and alarmingly disappearing in this country. Just compare what that picture represents,... partriotism, faithfulness, devotion, dedication, sincerity, conservatism and so much more. Now think back to the Clinton administration and how many shades of failure that represents. . Mr. President, you are, and will be missed.

Ronald Reagan would not take his suit coat off when in the Oval office out of great respect for his surroundings.
Clinton on the other hand, often had his pants around his ankles when in the same office.
Kerry is trying to play both sides of almost every issue I've ever heard him talk about. I can listen to him speak and never get a sense of where he stands.
Now you know precisely how I feel, chatting with you sometimes!

he will never be forgotten around the world. Everyone will know who he is, and that he was a great man when they see his ship, uss ronald reagan CVN-76.
My Grandfather died of Alzheimers. My Grandmother also took care of him herself. She finally had to put him in a nursing home, as these victims often become violent (my Grandmother was covered in bruises).
We went to Canada to visit them, and because my mother wanted to say goodbye to her father (who did not recognize her or her sister at the time). They would come out of the nursing home bawling their brains out, because it hurt them so bad to see him like that. I was 14 at the time, and could not bring myself to go see him............ I wanted to remember Grandpa how he was before the illness.
Nancy will have to go down as one of the classiest first ladies in history. To see two people love each other as much as they did, was truly inspirational.
Hopefully history will put Reagan where he belongs, as one of the best Presidents we ever had. Unfortunately, history has a tendency to get rewritten to coincide with what is popular at the time. Reagans death really makes you look back at a President like Clinton to see just how far a country can fall.
Those pictures are heart wrenching. I can barely look at them and keep myself from breaking down.
President Reagan, your suffering is over. You can now continue where you left off before the disease ravaged your mind. You will not be forgotten, and you will be sorely missed.
On a side note, if the Democrats try to capitalize on his death......... then they have truly sunk to the lowest levels of deprivity.
