About a month ago one of my neighbors came by and told me he was getting a SRT-10.We talked for awhile and this guy is a car and race nut,so we got along pretty good.Well he call's me today and sure as shit he has the car.I drive over to see it and I gotta tell ya-I like it.It's not a RT/10,or a GTS,it's a stand alone deal.We drove out by the lake and he pull's over.He put's the top up(very easy to do)and let's me drive back.Remember, this car only has 756 miles on it,and it's NOT MINE.I pulled it up to a little over 4k and ran it through the gears and this car is smooth. My first impression is that with some minor mod's,this car will be a MONSTER.You can tell that it's toned down alot, either for smog,or gas milage,or whatever, but when this car get's uncorked it's going to kick some serious ass.The view from the cockpit is very cool and compleatly different than my car.
This is one of the first SRT-10's in this state and I can't believe I just drove it.You remember what it was like to drive a Viper for the first time ? Same thing but a little different.
Like it or not,it's still a Viper.
I have shared my Viper with quite a few people and I guess what goes around comes around.I still have the grin on my face. :thumb:
The rear splitter is very cool in person.
They fixed the brakes in a big way,the car will actually slow down now,and the in dash 6-CD player sounded 6x better than my stock stereo. Not that you buy a Viper for the radio.
There is no doubt it is a beast when it comes to performance. I think we will see mid 11's stock by a good driver. Beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder. I have only seen 1 in person and was not impressed, but yes it is still a Viper and only time will tell how the car is received.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I still feel that way when I drive mine.
When I was at VOI, I didnt really think the rear was that big of a deal. Loved the rear diffuser on the comp coupe though. The radio looked too standard DC OEM. Like the way ours looks much better. More along the lines of a typical exotic with an aftermarket radio stock. Yes it does sound like shit, but like you said its not the reason you buy a viper. So the question is, would you give up your GTS for an SRT?
I would'nt trade my GTS for one because they are two different car's.It's sort of like the difference between the GTS and the RT/10.......Two different car's.
The way that convert top work's is sweet though........My son could do it,it's so easy.
The thing I get excited about is the NEXT generation of Viper !!!
We had the Roadster
We had the Coupe
We had the Convertible
The next Viper should be something very very special.
The broker I purchased my GTS from has one in his shop and he said he would show it to me.If I have my Camera I will take some pics. He is designing/fitting up a hard top for it.
I got to drive the black one that ran 11.86@123. It was in the paddock area of the strip. Different. Very different. Except for the fabulous brakes, I was underwhelmed. Did not set the hook in me and I probably won't keep mine when it comes in.
Drove home from the strip in my GTS and loved it. Penske shocks RULE!!!
Glad to hear they finally put a decent sterio in a viper.
Oh brother. Typical comment from a Vette guy. Who gives a shit about the stereo? The audiophiles all want to customize them no matter what gets put in. DC should just leave jacks and speaker holes and let people put their own system in.

I have a simple solution for you Clownie, wouldn't it be sweet if you could get one of each, just imagine how amazing that would be!! and don't forget about the Competition Coupe
