You know, they are changing the engine in the Range Rover soon. It will sport (in the top model) the supercharged 370-390 HP V8 from Jaguar. I think they will offer a naturally aspirated version too.
Ford bought it from BMW after the complete makeover. Everything on it essencially is BMW. The engine is a 7 series V8 and most everything else is from the BMW X5. Don't know if it is "bulletproof" reliable but there is NO DOUBT the reliability is better than it was...so has resale value...so far.
Went and looked at a Rover over lunch - $82 big ones...
Due to the 'care factor' of a daily driver - maybe a new Durango - only graphite to match the cars... Not sure - but what I do know is that I am kinda hard on my trucks...
One of my guys is trying to talk me into one of those new bmw's - if I am going to drop 75k on a car - it is going to be a bumble-bee...
Maybe I'll drive around a bit this weekend and see what I can find... A quick fast and easy solution though would be to drop in at my Dodge dealer and tell him to upgrade me to a new graphite durango...

The new Rover is pretty expensive, and it's worth the money, but it's expensive. You can get a SWEET deal on a 2001 Range Rover for a fraction of the price if you don't need the "new" body style. The feel, performance, and quality etc is very close.
My onlu issue with a truck that expensive is that I'd actually have to care about it... There is something to be said about never giving a crap about a scratch on the Durango or being careful with it as I blew through a snow bank...
We'll see - suppose as soon as I test drive one it'll be the one...
I have a Durango too, and if I could manage with less room, I'd get the Infinity FX-45 as my daily driver. I love that little thing and its got like 320 HP.
Have you considered getting a transmission service done? That might by you some time. I had the full system flushed and my tranny felt good as new.
Why not just spend 2K and have the tranny replaced/rebuilt. That is cheaper than just paying the taxes on something new.
Mark, I almost bought an FX45 too. But the reality is, the 20 inch wheels and sport suspension were just too rough....for a daily driver. The engine sounds awesome though. Especially under WOT!
