Filming for the commercial took place entirely on location at Thunderhill Park in January. Jeff Zwart, the director of "The One," said this was the first time that a helicopter could not keep up with a car during filming. He also said that unlike other sports car commercials, the film was not sped up to make the car look better.
“Our test driver topped speeds of 140 mph and never shifted higher than fourth gear,” Stoddart said. “There was absolutely no need to use editing tricks to make the GT appear faster on film.”
As Stoddart alludes to, the GT's performance is incredible. For its January 2004 cover story, “Judgment Day!” a Car and Driver magazine test driver drove a Ford GT from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds. Car and Driver also recorded a quarter-mile time of 11.6 seconds at 128 mph. In the same test, Ferrari’s $193,000 Challenge Stradale took four seconds to reach 60 mph and was 0.8 second and 13 mph slower through the quarter-mile.
"It wasn't even a contest," wrote Car and Driver's Larry Webster. "The Ford GT so completely dusted off its two highly recognized competitors (the Ferrari Stradale and Porsche 911 GT3) that if we wanted to make this a real challenge, we would have had to go way up the 'supercar' price ladder ... The Ferrari and Porsche both require an upshift before 60 mph, but the Ford does not, which accounts for some of the huge sprint-time advantage."
Showcasing the GT's performance, "The One" will air once during the Super Bowl pre-game show on CBS shortly before kick off on Feb. 1, and again during special events such as the Ford Championship at Doral, which will be broadcast on NBC in March, and the finals of American Idol, which will air in May on the Fox network. A companion print ad to “The One” will appear Sports Illustrated’s annual swimsuit issue.

My wife saw the ads tonight...she said she liked my ACR better.
I love that woman.
My fiance saw the ads and she really liked how it looked. Even better than when we saw it at the Chicago auto show. She made no mention of my RT, but I still love her anyway.
Listen the GT is a bullshit car. It's a fuckn Ford that looks retro. Thats sad that they even have to commercialize a car like that.I would just let the car speak for itself.
FUCK OFF Badvenom!!!!! Have you seen the performance stats on the GT? It's no bullshit car. They purposely made the car look retro to celebrate their 100 year anniversary. That being said, it looks a hell of a lot better than the new Viper that's for damn sure. And as far as not having to commercialize it, Ford is doing the same Dodge did with the Viper. Put out a flagship car that will draw people into the showroom where they will buy other Ford products.
Hey Badvenom, don't you have a Greek salad to toss or something? Haaaaa. I crack myself up sometimes.

Badvenom...jealous much? I have owned 4 (1/2) Vipers and the GT is the real deal. It will look very nice next to my ACR in fact. Don't be a hater. The GT slams on the SRT in looks and apparantly performance. Who honestly can deny that. The GT is what the GEN II Vipers are and the SRT SHOULD have been. I'll always love my ACR but one supercar is never enough.
BTW, they didn't have to commercialize it to sell it...they will sell them all at oversticker with no problem. I guarantee that...Maybe Dodge should commercialize their SRT then maybe dealers won't have to heavy discount them to move them...but I doubt that would help anyway.

Badvenom, youre just being jealous. Kinda like the vette owners who say that we paid too much. Same bullshit. I'll be the first to say that Ford outdid dodge in a MAJOR WAY. That car is badass, and thats not an opinion....fuckin fact
I was gonna say it was Thunderhill. I was watchin it and I was like... HEY, I KNOW THAT TRACK!
I agree, the GT is what the SRT should have been. I've got friends who are getting one - hopefully sooner than later. And its tops on my dream list too.

I would love to have one of those bullshit cars myself. It gives me a major woody just like the GTS did back in 1994 when it was debuted.
I'd love to have one if somebody else made the engine.
This brings up something that has always bugged me -- why in the world didn't Dodge advertise with the Viper more? Sure it made it into a few short-run commercials here and there, but who was the moron who let it's 10 years of American automotive dominance slip by almost unnoticed? Were they afraid they'd scare off the minivan-buying public?
