Scanners?

Friend of mine picked up a scanner, Uniden BC296D, runs about $525 - anyone into these things? Always thought one might be interesting, but before I spend that kind of Jack, wondering if anyone had any feedback.

I used to be. Back then cordless phones and cell phones were easy to listen in on. I would also be interested in todays snooping technology.

most state police channels are digitally encoded. you can't hear their calls without the algorithm. The sherriff depts, are being switched now. you can pick up cell calls can cordless calls on non PCS phones.

I use a bc250d, same digital internals in a handheld. It works great and can listen in to I-talk which were previously untrackable. The only drawback it the complex programing and learning curve to properly use these new scanners.

I have a portable unidine bearcat in my car, it is great for getting around accidents, knowing if you have been called in for speeding or if the police run your plate. Buy a bunch and rent them out to parents this way they will know what their children are doing.
