Well, it's up & in place. All I have to do is patch a couple holes (which I'm doing now) in the walls where I had to snake some wires & it's done.
Just watched "Finding Nemo" with the kids & it looks 3D on the new tv....
While the picture on the tv is EXCELLENT, the surround sound system also makes a HUGE difference in the way one watches a movie at home.
There are 3 speakers up front, a bass cube speaker to the right of the fireplace in the corner & 2 more speakers an the left & right of the sofa. The stereo cabinet was removed from another room & put in place to the left of the fireplace.
Prior to installing the tv & stereo, the living room was just a room in the house that didn't get used at all. Now, it is a very usable room. :thumb:
BIG thanks again to our generous bennefactor here on the Alley. This place rocks!
GO ahead everyone, hate me some more.

Congrats MarkO!! Looks great!! I hope you and your family really enjoy the new home theater system you bastage!!! (I'm jealous too!!) My family and I sit and watch a measily little 13" B&W in our double wide. Thankfully my children do not even know that Nemo (as well as "Barbie" Swan Lake) are supposed to be in color.

Eddie, I'm just good with my snake!!!!!
Actually, you can see a few more holes here that I needed to make to get through some studs. Only two were visible though; the one just above the mantle (to the left of the center speaker) and the one under the left speaker. The rest are hidden by the tv & stereo cabinet. While I was at it, I added the crown molding to the room too......

I'd say that for the size room that it's in, the size & height are perfect when sitting on the couch which is about 13 feet away from the screen. One thing that you can't see is that the tv bracket has a 5 degree down tilt to it, so it's comfortable viewing for me while my ass is parked on the couch. The kiddies sit in the front seats & so what if they've got to look up a little bit, it's good enough for them! .

Mark....I'm curious as to why you mounted it so high? My neck would hurt looking at that. I think the best way to mount those are at eye level....am I right? I just don't think I'd like it that high....oh well, your tv though.

You bastard. I can't hardly stand the thought of that thing NOT being at the 4B Lodge. Do you know how much money you've cost me?
I hope you mounted it with toggle bolts and it drops to the floor. Better yet, I hope you build a bonfire in the fireplace and the damper closes causing it to melt down into a steaming pile of molten plastic!
Now that I FINALLY have that out of my system.......... Congrats! Nice looking install.
I was kind of wondering what you were going to do with that gaping hole that is just below and to the right of the left front speaker?

Agreed, eye level would be best, but believe me there is no neck or eye strain at all what so ever with the tv over the mantle. My ceiling height is only 7'-6".

We shopped around for home theater set-ups. First, we went to the Bose store. Very nice stuff, but waaaaaaay too expensive. Their bottom of the line system 3 speaker system cost $1,600.00 & prices went up, way up from there!! We ended up going to Cambridge Soundworks & got a Sony DVD player, an Onkyo amp/reciever, & their own brand of speakers. The total package was about $1,400.00 & sounds awesome!!!! Wanched Forest Gump last night; Remember the scene where he flew in to Vietnam on the chopper with Bubba? Between the Creedence song & the chopper noise, the whole house was vibrating! Too Cool! Great job Marky Mark. It looks freak'n awesome. I hope you are happy with the mount over the fireplace. I am sure it was a lot of work but in the end I think you made a great decision. Now when is the party?

Behind that hole was another stud that I had to drill through & rout the wiring through. Don't wrry, it's patched now & now has the final coat of spackle on it. Paint will soon follow sir.
