Does this have an impact on the future of the viper??? I realize they are not in the same class.
Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) - January 13, 2004
Detroit (dpa) Chrysler is to build a V12 super sports car presenting at the Detroit Motor Show (January 10-19) a prototype of the car to go into serial production next year.
The two-seater car with the project code M-E 4-12 is to be built largely with carbon, aluminium and other light-weight materials, the manufacturer said.
The engine will come from the Mercedes subsidiary AMG with some 850 horsepower. The competitor of the Ferrari Enzo, Mercedes SLR and Bugatti Veyron will take just 2.9 seconds to 96 km/h. Chrysler put the top speed at 400 km/h.
Road tests are scheduled immediately after the motor show. On the medium term Chrysler is planning the production of 300 units per year.
That's great to hear, but I can't help but wonder about this.
I mean, Mercedes already has the SLR coming out, yet you'll have to wait 'til 2007 to take delivery of one. But they're going to start making the ME 412 next year? Never mind the fact that they're cannibalizing sales from the SLR, but to get it out sooner?
I don't recall the two-seat über-car market to be that large to begin with.
I would like to know your source because it sounds like pure speculation and gossip to me. I would think there would be a viper coupe before chrysler released a supercar, and ditto on the cannibalizing SLR sales comment.
The SLR will go over like a fart at the dinner table.
This car has real potential!
Kudos to DC and I will be buying one (hopefully!).
Mark I'd love to be able to say that - it would feel really good....
let me try it...
"I will be buying one"
It made me feel good, I know that! I don't let the fact that its total fantasy hold me back.
I probably shouldn't say, but I heard through the grapevine (from a source at the Detroit show) that there WILL be a SRT-10 Coupe. I haven't heard any more details but if I heard it, then they must be close to announcing something.

Another car site, I guess I should have put a ? behind the title of the thread. I agree with you they should have put this money towards Dodge products or other Chrysler products.
