Funny you should mention it [img]/images/graemlins/supergrin.gif[/img].....I have tried to on a few occations.

I am not a computer guy. When I find a photo to save I do so. When I try to post it It tells me it is a BMP and I can not post it.

BMPs are a huge waste of space - uncompressed images that are usually 5-10x bigger than they need to be. [img]/images/graemlins/supergrin.gif[/img]

Actually, BMP does support RLE compression, but for some reason those Mac-head nuggets at Adobe have never seen fit to add it to Photo Shop. Not that there is any good reason to use GIF or BMP over JPEG anyway, 99.999% of the time...

.Gifs are good to go, .JPGs are compressible. What more would you want?
I use a real early Micrographics Picture publisher I got free with a scanner to convert everything to .JPG or .GIF. It's easy and PJ is right that .BMP is at least two shitloads bigger than an equivalent .JPG .
