Shame he has to muck up his record with paybacks for the politically connected and a damn-the-consequences attitude of going to War with incomplete and disputed data. I expect more from someone who holds the office of the Commander In Chief. I do support his program of tax cuts and for relief from the tons of red tape environmentalists have added to the books over the years.

Although, I'm not so sure about this Medicare thing, four years seems like a long time to wait for prescription benefits and almost nothing goes four years without modifications, almost seems like an election year ploy they can take back later. Not that we can afford to give the benefit today, but Medicare as a whole has alot of financial problems that throwing more money at won't fix.

Excessive lawsuit awards in what context?

Punitive damage awards in all lawsuits? Medical malpractice awards? Triple damages??? I can get behind most of those.

its funny to me that quite a few people who arent involved in the litigation process on a daily basis share this common belief that there is a epidemic on our hands of unprecedented proportions with respect to lawsuits, runaway juries and excessive judgments....problem is the facts seem to get in the way. case in point, the prez had to pull back a lot of his speeches and commercials cause the GAO did a study on lawsuits and found that during the last 10 years they had declined in both number of filings and size of awards.

anecdotes and sentiments are nice fellas but facts are facts. there is no epidemic. this is nothing more than an opportunistic political movement that is being cleverly and masterfully orchestrated by the insurance companies while they have friends in office.

the biggest opponents of most of these measures are not plaintiff's lawyers...but instead defense lawyers. even they will tell you that rarely is an unjustified or excessive verdict rendered and that the system properly deals with bad lawsuits on its own as it exists today.

prez bush....i love what he did in response to 9-11 and the iraqi war..(except the lack of an exit strategy) but my god i have never seen a president so beholden to his special interest groups.
