So my buddy's week just got a little shittier...

I'm sittin here harassing gthomas as usual when the phone rings. It was my roomate and he asks if I can come pick him up. I saiy sure what's up did your car break down? (he got this car from his parents for his 21st b-day on Nov 3rd) he said no, worse. So i jump in the trusty daytona and speed off to save the day. As it turned out he got distracted and ended up running a red light and nailed this toyota corolla. I only got pics of the car he hit as I really didn't feel like agitating him further. He got the towtruck to take it back to our hometown 2 hours away where he is going to get home then have to explain it to his parents, not a fun night for the guy. On top of this his insurance dictates that he is not allowed to have the car up here at school (he was quoted 6.5K for insurance to drive it wherever/whenever) and on top of that he got a $190 fine for running a red light and then a $360 ticket for not having his licence on him. Then on top of that he got 3 points.

and the rear. It's a write off, his car escaped with just fender/hood damage and can easily be rebuilt.

Damn - that's really too bad. I've been absentminded and scared the shit out of myself before by making a left at a red light. Glad he's ok - what was he driving?

toyota looks totaled. I hope it isn't. At least no one is hurt. there has to be an upside. Sure the parents are going to be pissed, but looking at the whole pitcure, would you blame them?

I wouldn't blame them, he's got too much on his mind with finals/assignment to begin with. The toyota was fucked up on teh other side as well and there was a baby in the passenger seat, thankfully she was unhurt

I seen a lot of young people get depressed and anxious over stuff - yet from where I sit - they've had a lot given them.

Maybe part of learning to cope with life is having to struggle - it makes us stronger.

No offense to your friend at all - I sure hope he learns from this and passes his exams - but if he works hard and earns every penny of his next car - he'll be really alert around intersections.

Do you know how common it is for guys that age to tear cars up? I did it and I'll bet 80% of the guys in here did when they were that age. It's called growing up. The main thing is that there were no serious injuries. That's when it gets ugly.

Tell him to keep his chin up and kick ass in school and I bet his parents will be plenty supportive.

We won't get into Austintacious until that evening and Dad is wanting to grill some trout for the family. I was thinking Friday before we left town might be better. 1) Glad he is in Canada.
2) Glad he is not driving anymore.

Dollar to donuts that he was on the cell when he got "distracted." Please - 21 freaking years old and he totals his car while meandering through an intersection? Nevermind the donkey punch he likely laid on the other car.

Memo to Canadian Distracted Barely Legal Driver: Put down the bacon, drop the Molson, turn off the Oilers game on the radio, put on your snow chains and learn how to drive, eh.

The only thing worse than "distracted" drivers on a cell phone are the a-holes that insist on throwing their SUV into park, flipping on the hazard lights and running in to a market "real quick" - in the middle of downtown freaking San Francisco.
