Mine does the exact same thing. It has done it as long as I have owned the car and funny enough I finally remembered to ask my viper tech about it last week. He said these transmissions are very strong but if there is a problem, the 1-2 gear synchro isn't terribly rare. The fix unfortunately requires them to replace some brass ring or something around the synchro so they have to remove the tranny and you have to buy an "overhaul" kit. Not sure how much those are but I was told it is about 8-10 hours of labor. I'm checking into the total price though
