I agree that Tyson would have been the all-time best had he had any intelligence. As it turns out, he was probably the most talented and feared boxer but his demise probably took away that image of perhaps the best of all time.
It is unfortunate that people forget that he absolutely demolished people early in his career.
In 1985, at the age of 19, of the 15 fights he had, 11 of them ended in a first round knock out.
After knocking Trevor Berbick senseless, he then dismantled some really big men over the next few years including Tony Tucker, Tyrell Biggs, Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Frank Bruno etc.
Unfortunately, he met Robin Givens and I'm sure the next 20 years or so have been a bit fuzzy for him.
