Good suggestion - but my thoughts...
I too, was thinking of renting a drum sander but am afraid I might ruin it if I hit any nails. Although I do intend to sink the nails into the deck 3/8" or so, I'm afraid that even one nail might escape me and I would be buying the rented drum sander.

I do have a random orbital sander and knee pads tho.

I'm thinking of buying the Dewalt Heavy-Duty 3" X 21" Variable Speed Belt Sander - DW433 since all the other tools I have are Dewalt as well. However, Home Depot does not have them in staock, althouth Lowes does so I think I will go there now that it has started to rain and look at dishwashers as well.
