Question Anybody getting Blu-Ray now that the war is over?

I have been on the fence over the last year or so about whether HD-DVD or Blu-Ray would be the better choice. With Blu-Ray emerging as the victor, I went out and bought a Sony player this weekend.
I have it hooked up to a 1080p Philips LCD via HDMI. I watched "Good Luck Chuck" the other night, and it was crystal clear. We watched a movie last night, and it really didn't look much better than a standard DVD. I've got the output setting on the player set on "auto", which means it should have an output signal of 1080p.
Is that just the way it is with these high-def DVD's? Will some look great and others look...meh?
I was in Sears a few weeks ago. They had a Blu-Ray playing on a Samsung 1080p Plasma. The movie was one of the Pirates of the Carribean series and it was so freaking clear it looked like I was watching real life through a window. I was amazed and I've been watching HDTV for 5-years now!
