Common divorce theme: Stage one: She says he was a ___ husband. Divorce gets done, she's still unhappy, and doesn't like having less money. Stage two: The bad husband story doesn't play anymore and she doesn't like having to coordinate anything with the husband, so a new story emerges, he's a ___ father. Everything the kids ever do wrong is his influence, and she seeks every bit of additional 'control' possible over the kids. Her new goal: For kids to grow up and think mom was a saint for raising them and dad was a bum.
Don't lose sight of what that child means to you, and the relationship you want with that child 20 years from now.
