I think it's more of a "is there a better way to resolve this" than debating the meaning of the word "warranty". It seems to me he has practical limitations on just what he can or is willing to do for a customer he had no involvement in and you feel that the previous owners owe you for what went wrong with your car - maybe you need some kind of arbitration? I don't know, just not sure that you are any closer to a resolution than you were when this post started and I'm trying to say there might be a better way.
