Are we alone in the universe?

Anyone seen this video before? It's NASA footage from shuttle mission STS-75, circa 1996, and is aka "The Tether Incident". It’s almost 7 minutes long, but an interesting watch.

What it shows is a 12 mile stretch of tether that broke loose from the shuttle. The tether has a multitude of circular-shaped objects flying around both in front of and behind it. When compared to the length of the tether, some of these objects look to be more than 2 miles across. Their origin is unknown.

Some say it's the smoking gun.
