Carl - Don't feel badly. I have people telling me all the time that what I can do or want to do won't work or sucks or whatever. With my car, for example, some swore that i'd never see more than XXXX rwhp due to the injectors only being able to handle YYY power. I think they are full of sh*t and I keep pushing the limits.
As for my personal experiences with the side-mount ICs, they haven't gotten dinged or damaged so far with over 1k miles on them. And of those 1k miles, 100 are on a road course and probably 20+ 1/4 mile passes. plus the streets of Atlanta. So the nay-sayers may or may-not be correct in theory... but I'm happy with what I got and it is working quite well so far!
