The ONLY thing that works over the LONG run is changing your life style.
Do it slowly and consistently.
Diet: Cut out fast food, sodas and fried foods. Eat more grilled foods and vegetables, cut back on the sauces and dressings. Eating at home more often - this way you control what goes in and on your food. Restaurants are out to make the best tasting food and thus add tons of oil and butter on foods.
Exercise regularly with a variety of exercises - hit the gym, run, swim, play basketball or anything active that you enjoy at least 30 min 4-5 times a week. Make it a routine - either immediately before or after work. Once you get home there will be a million and one reasons to skip the exercise.
It will also help if your wife is supportive and changes her diet and exercises with you - at least on the weekends.
There is NO easy way and NO magic diet.
