Re: Al Sharpton and the Repo Man...
I dated this black chick once (I still miss her) and I used to get a kick out of when she would call me a cracker-ass honkey. But then again, I've never felt opressed because of my color, so it's easy for me to laugh. I never could feel right being the same way with her.
I guess I'm just agreeing with what slaughter said. If this board was mostly black guys and someone said "stupid whitie" or "stupid lightie" I'd probably be kinda pissed even if I didn't feel it was worthy of starting something over... maybe other people feel slighted but they just don't want to start something over it?
To put it another way, the only people I've ever seen get away with being ignorant (or joking about being ignorant) were people so schleppy that they didn't need to care what people thought of 'em. I could wear a shirt that says 'fuck your mother asshole!', but would I wear it at work? If not, why should I wear it around my friends? Shouldn't I be sensitive enough to know that something may offend and stop the thought process before it goes from the brain to the mouth?
Just some thoughts.
