Former Robeson Detective Charged With Kidnapping
POSTED: 2:20 pm EDT August 18, 2005
ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. -- A former Robeson County sheriff's detective already accused of staging a drug raid has been indicted on additional charges of kidnapping and robbery for a similar incident.
Vincent Sinclair, 42, and four other men have been charged in a fake drug raid in Maxton in May 2004.
Several people were held at gunpoint while the men searched the house, according to the state Department of Justice. An undetermined amount of cash and valuables were stolen.
Vehicles and equipment from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office were used in the crime, according to the SBI.
Sinclair and three of the men face similar charges for an incident from December 2003. The men kidnapped and beat Darius Bain before releasing him after a $150,000 ransom was paid, according to investigators.
Sinclair worked with the sheriff's department for 10 years, most recently as a detective in the juvenile task force division. He was fired soon after he was arrested in May.
