Re: Todays dumbass award goes to....
No but i too have had a similar customer. I was waiting on a dealership to pick up a finished car, when a 20/25 yo kid walked thru door asking if we would look at his car. He said he could smell smoke and the amp stops after 5 minutes.
1998 mustang convertable. He removed the factory head and replaced it with an Alpine head. All you could smell is burnt rug and plastic. When to get my removal tools and returned to find him in the trunk. In the trunk, he mounted to the cardboard(it's pressed board) a 400 watt mitubishi amplifier. Looking at his install I find a 6 gage wire running up the passenger side, under the rear seat. Returned to the passenger side and removed rear seat. He had pulled the seat out ran the wire and put the seat on top of it. Traced wire to sill, removing it, found he had just stuffed the wire under the sill. At the base of the a pillar he went out the door into the fenderwall then thru a cutout into the engine compartment. This wire was directly wired to battery, without any fuse, relay, circuit braker, nothing.
When he put the rear seat in, he caused a block by pinching the wire. Wire was overheating and melting wire. amp was overheating also.
Asked kid to leave car and charged him 350 to fix wire and additional 250 for needed parts.
