Problem you can have with laptops is that they often use proprietary drivers for their video screens and such.. The hard drive itself is probably smaller than a normal desktop drive as well. Lastly, if you have a backup disk you might want to try using that as they will usually reformat and restore your factory settings. If you don't have one, you might check the dell site about ordering one. There are several things that can go wrong when swapping out a laptop HD.. just keep that in mind.
