I agree on the 250 starter and get used to it like a second skin. Then grow out of it if you want to.

I drove a 1974 RD350 for 5 years and learned to rear wheel lockup slide both left and right as well as other handling maneuvers to perfect my riding.

Then I went up in size later but I missed my RD as I never have been so connected to a bike as that one.
