I WISH our prices were that "nation average". Gas is about 4.20 around here, and some proof it's not getting any better is Chrysler's "2.99" for 3 years deal. They wouldn't have made that contract if insiders didn't know for a FACT that prices are going to STAY this way for good. At this rate it will be 5+ a gal about this time next year. Personally I think alot as to do with price gouging, the fact that in less then a few years prices nearly doubled with no sign of stopping. In early 2005 I paid around 1.55 for reg and 1.75 for high grade.
