rent a car for the day and get out of cancun. drive down to tulum and visit the ruins. make sure you go down to the beach for an hour, its one of the prettiest in the world. on your way back pull into a dirt road leading to a town called tankah, have lunch at casa cenote, ceviche and cerveza. go for a swim in their cenote right across the street.
drive a little closer to cancun and pull into the town puerta aventuras. have dinner at gringo daves. after dinner go to playa del carmen(closer to cancun) and have some drinks at any number of bars. hop in your car and head back to cancun.
note to self, when driving if you ever see a sign that reads 'tope' that means speed up. those little speed bumps are more for enjoyment.
if you are really adventuras, pack a lunch, leave early and drive down to xcalak. a small little town 7 miles from the belize border. rent a boat and snorkel or dive the chinchorro reef
